Previous alert with full text of proposed ordinance: http://stopbsl.com/2009/06/19/mt-clemens-mi-city-eyes-tough-rules-for-pit-bulls/
The restrictions for merely keeping a “pit bull” in Mt. Clemens would be stricter than keeping a truly dangerous dog (one that has bitten a person). This proposed ordinance is likely to pass if there is no strong opposition.

Introduction and First Reading of the Dangerous Animals Ordinance
Over the past several months, numerous citizens have requested that the City address what many perceive as a growing problem and that is the proliferation of pit bulls and other dangerous animals within the City. Administration has been presented with a petition signed by more than 60 residents requesting legislation regulating the ownership and possession of such animals. As a result thereof, City staff has collected detailed and reliable data regarding the subject and has concluded that pit bulls and other dangerous animals constitute an unacceptable risk of harm and fear to the residents of the City and that an ordinance regulating the ownership, possession and harboring of such animals is reasonable and necessary for the protection of the public health, safety and welfare.
SUBMITTED BY: Michael J. Murray, City Attorney
Jeffrey D. Wood, Public Services Director
RECOMMENDED MOTION: Approve the introduction and first reading of the Dangerous Animals Ordinance and set July 20, 2009, as the date for the second reading and adoption.
