The topic of banning the breed in Clinton was put on the agenda after a report last month that two pit bulls killed a Clinton resident’s dog.
The issue was discussed at Tuesday’s meeting, with the panel deciding the city needs to expedite the process of rewriting the city’s dog ordinance and include provisions with larger fines for owners whose dogs attack and fines for owners who do not license their dog with the city.
“It’s not really the dog,” said At-Large Councilman Mark Vulich. “It’s the owner and how they care for the dog.”
The panel directed City Attorney Paul Walter to bring forward the section about dangerous dogs to its next meeting with language spelling out what the fines would be.
