Point Pleasant, WV: Breed ban passes first reading

This ordinance will be up for a second reading at an unspecified date (possibly the August council meeting). There is no grandfather clause for the proposed prohibited breeds.

Next city council meeting: August 16, 7:00 PM, at City Hall, 400 Viand Street.

Point Pleasant dog ordinance passes first reading

POINT PLEASANT — Section B of the ordinance addresses specific breeds that are prohibited inside city limits. The following dog breeds fall under the prohibited category: Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier and any breeds of dog that “have the appearance and characteristics of being predominantly of the breeds of dogs known as Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier.”

Worcester, MA: BSL proposed

Edit 7/21: The hearing date for this ordinance has been set for August 10, 6 p.m. in the Esther Howland Chamber at City Hall.

This ordinance is modeled after the Boston “Responsible Pit Bull Ownership” ordinance, whose failures are well documented.

The ordinance is to be referred to the Public Health and Human Services committee, and the members of that committee are Philip Palmieri, Barbara Haller, and Konstantina Lukes. No date has been set as to when this issue might be heard next, but it is important to get your letters out for the council’s consideration.

Proposed rule would restrict pit bulls

WORCESTER — Local pit bull owners are facing the prospects of greater restrictions, duties and licensing requirements for their dogs. City Manager Michael V. O’Brien is recommending to the City Council an ordinance intended to deal with public safety concerns that have been raised by city councilors in recent months about pit bulls.

Lynn muzzle law OK’d

Lincoln, NE: Non-breed-specific dog law proposed
