A not-uncommon strategy for city council, when facing heavy opposition to an ordinance they really want to pass, is to delay the vote until the furor has died down. I wasn’t there, so I’m not suggesting Worcester council is deliberately delaying the vote so they can pass it smoothly later, but I do hope the same opposition will be in attendance at the September 7 meeting.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010WORCESTER — Residents packed City Hall tonight to give testimony on the City Council’s proposed pit bull dog ordinance. And while the council listened to about an hour of testimony, most of it in opposition to the ordinance, the council never voted on it because Councilor-at-Large Michael J. Germain put a hold on the item in accordance with council rules.
Mayor Joseph C. O’Brien said the council will take the item up at its Sept. 7 meeting.
