  1. First off everyone knows that BSL does NOT work and let me make a great point to you. Once you have BSL good law abiding people will get rid of their pitbulls. But the criminals, drug dealers and street people will not. So what is going to happen is all the people that are good pitbull owners will get rid of them but the people that will not care about the BSL will not and these are usually the people that do not raise the dogs in a good environment. You will have nothing but bad dogs left because you forced the good ones out and the people that dont care about your silly laws will have their dogs no matter what. Those are the people that harm and misrepresent the breed. BSL IS NOT THE ANSWER! Find another way because this is a waste of time. I have owner and rescued 8 Pit bulls dogs now and know more about the breed then anyone you will find. These are great dogs! But there is a certain type of person that uses the dog for other things other then being a fmaily animal. You need to punish these people HARD and I mean HARD! Set an example fast. There is a difference between the Pitbulls that are in bad areas and family raised pitbulls and thats a fact.

    • I totally agree with Jennifer. Not to mention that in areas where they have imposed BSL against the group of dogs commonly termed “Pit Bulls” (American Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers), they have shown that the number of dog attacks does not decrease. In one case it actually increased. (see http://www.filadog.com/html%20docs/Breed%20Specific%20Legislation/truth_about_breed_bans.htm) The problem is not the dog, but the owner. Anyone that has done there research knows this. Pit Bull type dogs were bred to be human friendly – for the wicked people that use them for dog fighting, they could not have dogs in the pit with 3 or 4 humans and have them turn on the humans, and they had to listen to the owners in the pit with them. Any dogs that were not human friendly were either killed or not bred. Furthermore, as Jennifer said – the people that use Pit Bull type dogs for evil purposes will either not give up their dogs regardless of a BSL, or they will give them up and get another type of dog that they will abuse and teach to be aggressive toward people – thus, one reason why BSL does not work. If you start severly punishing (and I mean severely – it has to hurt or they will not stop) the owners of the dogs that abuse them and make them aggerssive, and that use them for fighting, that is the way to solve the problem. Pit Bull’s were traditionally called “nanny dogs” in England since they were so good with children. Read about some of Michael Vicks Pit Bulls that have been rehabilitated (http://badrap-blog.blogspot.com/2009/12/hector-doing-work-he-was-bred-to-do.html). Incidentally, for the horiffic things he did, he should not be playing football again – this was a slap on the wrist to him, and I would not be surprised if he gets caught again doing the same thing. In addition, to being “nanny dogs”, they were also used by the military in WWI as search and rescue dogs, and there are several “Pit Bull” only search and rescue and law enforcement dogs today (http://www.lawdogsusa.org/home.html, http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/articles/sarpits.html) . “Pit Bulls” are super smart, athletic, highly human compliant (which makes them very easy to train for good or for bad), friendly and loving dogs by nature. It is their environment that makes some of them “bad dogs”, not the “breed”. For anyone that really wants to educate themselves, rather than acting out of hysteria, fear and ignorance, there are several websites to go through: http://www.pbrc.net/breedinfo.html, http://badrap.org/rescue/index.html, http://thebusterfoundation.rescuegroups.org/ …. and there are many more websites that tell the truth about “Pit Bulls” for those that are interested in learning the truth instead of lumping all dogs that look like “Pit Bulls” into one basket because of some bad owners.
