Jan 17 2012, at a work session of the Mt.Clemens City Commission, the Dangerous Animal Ordinance was up for review. The Animal Control Supervisor for Macomb Co. was present and answered questions, that reflected to wordage used in the city ordinance (Dangerous Animal) was redundant and that if the B.S.L. was eliminated from the ordinance, it would accomplish the goal of dealing with Dangerous Animals (without Breed Specification) We have two new commissioners from the last election that are against B.S.L. Happy to say ,we have four votes to repeal the B.S.L. from the ordinance. This should be an agenda item on the next City Commission Meeting(Feb 6,2012 at 7:00 P.M.) City Hall

I am beside myself. I was advised by the County Clerk days ago that the Attorney was asked to provide their recommendation at the Wednesday meeting, and said it was ‘very unlikely’ that they would even vote on it. She felt as I did, that we had until the next meeting in early March and we were being added to the Agenda. Our new group, Stubby’s Heroes, was preparing to present our case. Instead, I found out today that the Attorney not only had their recommendation, but brought the actual Ordinance. There isn’t even an Animal Control facility. There is only one ACO. This is going to put a huge financial strain on the individuals, the community and the county. Plenty dogs will probably be confiscated and be put down if the owners don’t comply, or the owners will simply let them loose adding to the stray population. If the owners decide to “turn in” their dogs, there is an 82.00 AC pick up fee….The fencing that they are requiring of the dog owners is expensive. It’s just not a fair response to a woman’s request based on a single Pit Bull having hurt or killed either one, or some of her sheep. The County Clerk told me that all emails and correspondence sent to her attention for the Commissioners was forwarded. She gave me the name of the ACO who is looking for PB rescues that she can call on as the future is bleak….a very, very unfortunate turn of events. :(

BSL is the most ridiculous law that anyone could come up with. When will goverment bodies and people in power get the fact that, this will not work? You need to sort out the people who use and abuse these dogs not the innocent pitbulls, who might i add, are one of the most loyal dogs you will probably encounter! It's so easy to just ban a breed than to tackle the real problem, which is the scum that use such breed of dogs for fighting or status.... No dog wants to fight, or be aggressive, you are just banning them because its easier to ban than tackle the real problem. You need to seriously look at this.It will never work BSL because it is not the answer. You need to sort the wider issues and not take it out on the dog because of what you deem it to be like!

Awesome, thanks for the response. My city, Newark, is a pain. I have been trying to get them to lighten the rules for years and they won't even though pit bull type dogs, according to the county health department, do not bite more than any other dog. Actually less. I'd love to help get city ordinances fixed. I'm treated like a criminal even when my dog has never bitten anyone, barked at anyone, or gotten lose. Not to mention, I've never had a single complaint about my dog, yet I have to jump through hoops simply because my dog looks a certain way, while the rest of the city are walking their dogs without leash's, without tags, etc.

Thanks again

Now at 84% of the Ohio Senate has voted FOR H.B.14, it will either go to the full House or a House Conference committee. No wayside. Since 70% of the House has previously voted FOR H.B.14, and it has been improved by several minor amendments (one was suggested by the Governor). It may pass the House again by an even greater percentage. After the Governor signs it, then the real work begins - going after all the communities with their individual BSL in Ohio. The passage of H.B.14 will make that a bit easier, hopefully.

No, it won't fall into a black hole or anything. It will definitely move, and probably already has, I just don't know where because the info wasn't made public. The process has information time lags. I got the info about the Senate vote, but the person who is responsible for issuing the "next step" information hasn't done so yet.
